Zhesty i mimika v russkoi rechi. Lingvostranovedcheskii slovar [Russian Gestures and Facial Expression]

New

This is a new and unique linguistic and cultural dictionary that describes gestures and facial expressions that are common among native Russian speakers. It explains the meaning of gestures and expressions and provides examples of situations in which they can be used and common words and phrases that may accompany them. Each entry includes examples from literature and, where necessary, elaborates on the Russian norms of non-verbal behavior to highlight appropriate vs. inappropriate expressions.

Each entry includes the description of the gesture or a facial expression, its main characteristics, verbal expressions that may accompany it, and several examples from literature and conversations that help put it in the context. Many entries are accompanied with black and white photographs to help illustrate how a person may look while having a certain expression. The entries are divided into 63 subgroups based on the part of the face/body that is central to the gesture or expression (e.g. eyes, hands, mouth, etc.)
