A realistic novel about how the telephone replaced a living person. Dmitry Glukhovsky goes beyond the genre boundaries of the post-apocalypse that is familiar to the reader and turns to prose of a completely different kind. Because of a fabricated case, a student at the prestigious Moscow State University, Ilya, received a seven-year sentence. By the time he was released, he had nothing left - no family, no love, no friends. But by coincidence, Ilya’s phone number falls into the hands of his offender – that same policeman Peter. What is this? Time for long-awaited revenge or a chance to start a new life? Peter’s whole life is in his phone, like each of us: we store moments of happiness in photographs and videos, work and business correspondence in mail, and the history of browsers will tell us what is really interesting to us. In the chats there are declarations of love and partings, joy and pain.
