In this edition, a brief essay presents the history of the South of Russia, as well as modern (at the beginning of XX century) life by the different peoples inhabiting the region. The book is excerpted from what was a fundamental source - a multivolume work on the geography and history of Russia: 'Russian. Full geographical description of our fatherland.' It was compiled and printed for many years in the late XIX - early XX centuries and was edited V.P.Semenova Tian Shan (Volume 7 - 'Little Russia,' St. Petersburg., 1903, and 14th - 'New Russia and the Crimea', St. Petersburg., 1910).
